Below is a brief note addressed to Lord Young in relation to a story in last Saturday’s Telegraph.

Dear Lord Young

I read that you are to ‘blitz’ the so-called ‘compensation culture’. What a good idea. I wonder who might have the courage to object to such a laudable declaration of war.

Disappointingly, however, I note that what you actually propose is a scaling back of the intrusive health and safety infantilism that the New Labour paternalists introduced, rather than a true ‘blitz’.

Should you genuinely wish to drop a bomb that will blow the ‘compensation culture’ to ashes, there are simple steps you can take and, into the bargain, you will save millions: close the Ministry of Justice claims management company department; scrap the claims management regulations; and ban referral fees.
