Customs compensation

I read with interest the article 'Recovery vehicles from customs' (see [2002] Gazette, 21 March, 39).

Other lawyers may be interested to know that the European Commission is handling complaints of an ongoing infringement procedure under article 226 of the treaty.

I have advised my clients to speak with their MEPs and to complain to Richard Van Raari, head of unit, European Commission, Directorate General Taxation and Customs Union General Affairs, and would advise others to do likewise.

Should the situation change, then compensation may be paid out to the 'victims'.
