Day has sights set on female inventor prize for IT service
The IT director of City firm Berwin Leighton Paisner is in contention for the first ever 'Women Inventors in Industry' award next week for her work on the firm's BeProfessional Web service.Janet Day and her team have been working with top-five accountancy firm Deloitte & Touche - the first link up of its sort between top legal and accountancy practices - to offer professional services over the Internet to small and medium-sized businesses.For example, users are able to deal with necessities such as VAT, tax return and health & safety forms.Ms Day, who has filed a patent for the technology used in the Web site, says: 'Our clients are mainly FTSE 250 companies, but we realised that using this system we could provide cheaper services to smaller companies and make the system very accessible.'She is one of several inventors competing for the award at the British Female Inventor of the Year awards and a share of up to 20,000 worth of prizes.
