Flying deal: City firm Berwin Leighton Paisner advised Ascent, a consortium comprising defence company Lockheed Martin and defence contractor VT Group, on a contract to provide UK military flight and weapons system training to RAF, Royal Navy and Army Air Corps pilots for 25 years – a PFI/PPP contract estimated to be worth up to £6 billion. Magic circle firm Linklaters acted for Royal Bank of Scotland as funders to the project while City firm Simmons & Simmons advised the Ministry of Defence.

TV deal: National firm DLA Piper acted for AIM-listed Dutch entertainment company 2waytraffic – which worked on ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ – on its £114m acquisition by 2JS Productions, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, advised by magic circle firm Freshfields. South-west firm Osborne Clarke represented the principal shareholders of 2waytraffic.

Sailing deal: South-west firm Osborne Clarke and South Devon firm Boyce Hatton advised luxury boat builder Princess Yachts on its sale to French investment group Groupe Arnault, advised by magic circle firm Linklaters, for an undisclosed sum.Petrol deal: Magic circle firm Clifford Chance and Al-Jadaan & Partners advised petrochemical company Saudi Kayan on a $6bn (£3bn) financing package for the development of a $10bn (£5bn) petrochemical complex in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia – which will be the largest in the world when built. Magic circle firm Allen & Overy advised the lenders.

Supermarket deal: City firm SJ Berwin advised British Land on the sale of two Sainsbury’s supermarkets in Swindon and Surbiton to an undisclosed buyer, advised by East Midlands firm Freeth Cartwright, for £56m.

Debt deal: City firm Herbert Smith advised Société Générale, RBS, Barclays Capital, UniCredit and Dresdner Bank on arranging €1.1bn (£880m) worth of debt facilities prior to the proposed merger of two of the world’s largest market research firms, Taylor Nelson Sofres and GfK.

Pension deal: Birmingham firm Wragge & Co advised the Delta Pension Plan on a deal that will see Pension Insurance Corporation, advised by magic circle firm Clifford Chance, insure the plan in exchange for £400m asset transfers and a £50m cash payment from ­engineering company Delta, advised by City firm CMS Cameron McKenna.
