Best brokered deal: City firm Berwin Leighton Paisner advised investment bank Durlacher on its £65 million acquisition of broker Panmure Gordon & Co from Lazard & Co, creating an enlarged independent corporate and institutional broker. Herbert Smith acted for Lazards and Norton Rose for the management of Panmure.
Most wooden deal: City firm Macfarlanes and Irish firm McCann FitzGerald acted for Kingspan Group on its ¤98 million (£67 million) of Century Homes, Ireland's leading manufacturer of timber-frame houses, represented by Birmingham firm Putsmans and Ireland's O'Donnell Sweeney.
Most televisual deal: National firm Pinsent Masons advised a management team led by David Elstein, the former chief executive of Channel Five, on the $242 million (£127 million) acquisition of Crown Media, the international business of the Hallmark Channel. The deal was backed by 3i and Providence Equity Partners, advised by Ashurst and US firm Debevoise & Plimpton respectively. US firm Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz acted for Hallmark.
Most gentlemanly deal: City firm Druces & Attlee acted for a syndicate of private investors on the £9.5 million purchase of the property at 27/29 Gentleman's Walk in Norwich, currently let to WH Smith. Eversheds advised the vendor, Mabey Group. Druces also acted for a separate syndicate on the £27 million purchase of the Debenhams store in Edinburgh, with Dickson Minto carrying out property due diligence. Maclay Murray & Spens acted for the vendor.
Best emitted deal: City firm Taylor Wessing advised Trading Emissions on its admission to the Alternative Investment Market, raising £135 million. Incorporated in the Isle of Man last month, the company aims to invest in environmental and emissions assets. US firm McDermott Will & Emery acted for joint nominated advisers Numis Securities and Cemkos.
