Most extended deal: City firm Ashurst advised Docklands Light Railway (DLR) on the award of a concession for the design, construction and maintenance of an extension to the DLR to Woolwich Arsenal. The concessionaire is Woolwich Airport Rail Enterprises (WARE), a consortium comprising AMEC Investments and Royal Bank Project Investments. The 2.4km extension will cost approximately £240 million; funding will be provided by The Royal Bank of Scotland and the European Investment Bank. London firm Bircham Dyson Bell advised DLR on the Transport and Works Act Order, national firm Pinsent Masons advised WARE and City giant Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised the funders.
Most educational deal: Regional firm Blake Lapthorn Linnell advised Tic Toc Childcare on its partnership with Sainsbury's to provide educational nursery facilities for the under-fives at its supermarket in Castle Point, Bournemouth. If successful, the 'they learn while you shop' scheme could be rolled out to other stores. National firm Addleshaw Goddard advised Sainsbury's.
Most media-savvy deal: City firm Lewis Silkin acted for publishing group Haymarket on its acquisition of Media Week magazine from Quantum Business Media for an undisclosed sum. CMS Cameron McKenna represented Quantum.
Most bling-bling deal: The London office of Baker & McKenzie advised Asprey Holdings on the sale and leaseback of its flagship luxury accessories store in New Bond Street. Magic circle firm Clifford Chance advised the buyer.
Best communicated deal: The London office of Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw advised wireless technology company UbiNetics Holdings on the £46 million sale of its wireless test and measurement division to Aeroflex, manufacturers of testing equipment for the communications and defence industries advised by Kramer Coleman Wactlar & Lieberman in the US, and US firm Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom and Pinsent Masons in the UK.
Most seismic deal: London firm Lawrence Graham advised Hardy Oil and Gas on its admission to the Alternative Investment Market and associated £15 million fundraising. The London office of US firm McDermott Will & Emery advised Arden & Partners, the nominated adviser and broker.
