Most number-crunching deal: City firm Berwin Leighton Paisner acted for Numerica, the acquirer of accountancy firms, on its sale to Vantis and an associated disposal of certain businesses and assets to BDO Stoy Hayward. The deal valued the company at £15.8 million. US/UK firm Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw advised Vantis, while London firm Olswang acted for BDO.


Sportiest deal: Media and entertainment firm Harbottle & Lewis advised Samsung Electronics on its five-year sponsorship deal with Chelsea, worth a reported £50 million to the football club. City firm Bird & Bird acted for Chelsea.


Best-served deal: Manchester firm Pannone & Partners acted for Texaco, a UK subsidiary of oil giant ChevronTexaco, on the sale of 118 Texaco-owned service stations to Somerfield, the supermarket chain. Texaco will continue to supply the stations with fuel, while the convenience stores will operate under the Somerfield brand. Regional firm Osborne Clarke advised Somerfield.


Coolest deal: Leeds firm Walker Morris acted for the shareholders of Airedale International Air Conditioning on its sale to US company Modine Manufacturing for an undisclosed sum. The Leeds office of Eversheds advised the buyer.


Most caring deal: Specialist London projects firm The Projects Partnership advised The Gloucestershire Care Partnership, a charity established to develop care services in the county, on a 35-year outsourcing contract with Gloucestershire County Council. The contract involved the creation of a new charitable joint venture company between the Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJ), which will operate care homes in the county, and Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (BPHA), which will invest £40 million into new homes over five years. City firm Lewis Silkin advised BPHA, while Withers acted for OSJ. The council was advised by Birmingham firm Wragge & Co and its in-house team.


Most cinematic deal: Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw acted for Vue Cinemas on its acquisition of the Ster Century UK and Ireland cinema circuit for an undisclosed sum. The sellers of Ster Century were advised by fellow US/UK firm Jones Day.
