Best oxygenated deal: City firm Linklaters & Alliance acted for BT to advise on the law of nine countries and co-ordinate advice in seven others over the demerger of its mobile business, creating mmO2.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer acted for mmO2 and advised BT on the arrangements between the two companies.
BT was also advised by Shearman & Sterling (US law), Arthur Cox (Ireland), Andersen Mori (Japan), Werksmans (South Africa), Mallesons Stephen Jaques (Australia), Russell McVeagh (New Zealand), Black Cassels & Grayson (Canada) and Chooi & Company (Malaysia).
Allen & Overy acted for the joint financial advisers on English law, while Clearly Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton advised them on US law.Most dissolved deal: Nicholson Graham & Jones acted for Nicholas Robbins on the dissolution of Garfield Robbins into two separate businesses, dealing independently with legal professional recruitment and legal secretarial recruitment.
Fox Williams advised Gavin Crocker, the other partner.Friendliest deal: Plymouth firm Foot Anstey Sargent acted for the Civil Servants Annuities Assurance Society on the 15 million transfer of its undertakings and engagements to fellow friendly society Royal Liver, advised by Liverpool firm Bremner Sons & Corlett.Best developed deal: Berwin Leighton Paisner advised property developer Crown Dilmun for the first time, acting on the establishment of a joint venture with the Ascott Group, the largest serviced apartment company in south-east Asia.
