Fastest deal: London firm Schilling & Lom and Partners acted for Ian Harrison in buying out his fellow shareholders in Triple 8, the team that dominated last year's British Touring Car Championship.

The shareholders, Roland Dane and ex-Formula One driver Derek Warwick, were represented by London firm Ross & Craig and Andover firm Talbot Walker respectively.Most visual deal: Masons acted for Bookham Technology on its 22 million purchase of Marconi's optical components business.

US firm Mayer Brown & Platt advised Marconi on corporate and other issues, while Pinsent Curtis Biddle provided property advice.Most high-altitude deal: Harbottle & Lewis acted for Virgin Atlantic Airways on the disposal of the company's first ever Boeing 747, known as Maiden Voyager.

Denton Wilde Sapte acted for a subsidiary of Barlcays Bank, which owned and financed the aircraft, while Humphrey Dawson acted for Kabo Air, the Nigerian-based operator which has bought it.Most historic deal: DLA is acting for Broadland Properties - owner of Hever Castle in Kent - in its 2.2 million purchase of adjoining Hever Golf Club, advised by Norton Rose, which will reunite part of the Kentish estate that once belonged to King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn.Edgiest deal: Harrogate firm Berwins advised the shareholders of Blue Edge Software on its 4 million sale to a UK subsidiary of French software company Business Objects, advised by US/UK firm Steptoe & Johnson.Most glamorous deal: Kuit Steinart Levy, the Manchester-based firm, acted for Mottram Holdings on its 8 million acquisition of sports marketing specialists World Sports Solutions - represented by Hammond Suddards Edge - which acts for football personalities such as Luis Figo, Patrick Vieira and David O'Leary, as well as the Williams Forumla One team.

Wacks Caller acted for Altium Capital, which advised Mottram.Most head-banging deal: Niche entertainment firm Collins Long acted for Men From The North, owner of Neat Records and Neat Metal Records, on its purchase by Sanctuary Records, advised by City firm Rosenblatt.

The deal adds a heavy metal catalogue to Sanctuary's stable.Best audited deal: Rowe & Maw acted for Baker Tilly on its merger with HLB Kidsons - advised by Pinsent Curtis Biddle - to create the eighth largest accountancy firm in the UK with fee income of 150 million.
