The new home and likely name for the 'super-court' that will replace the commercial, admiralty and technology and construction courts was finally announced this week. The Business Court will occupy offices on the site of the Rolls & Arnold building on Fetter Lane, London in what will be called simply the Rolls Building.

The Gazette has learned that the Courts Service selected the contractor that offered a considerably more attractive rent package in a bidding contest where submissions were otherwise closely matched.

Property developers Delancey and Invista are to build a 260,000 sq ft building on the Rolls site, of which the Business Court is to lease 145,000 sq ft, most likely over 25 to 30 years.

The Business Court will incorporate the functions of the Chancery Division, the Commercial Court and the Technology and Construction Court, as well as all business-related jurisdictions of the Royal Courts of Justice. It is expected to open in 2010.
