Directory goes on-line
WEB SITES: details of lawyers and other information
The Law Society has launched a Web site claiming to be the 'authoritative' guide to finding a solicitor in England and Wales.
The site contains listings of more than 80,000 solicitors with information about what type of work they specialise in, and how to contact them.
Using the site involves simply typing in the postcode or name of a particular town, and the database will produce a list of solicitors based in or near the area in question.
As well as this on-line directory, the site also contains an A-Z list of legal topics, which offers basic information and useful links for a number of legal issues, from aviation law to wrongful dismissal.
Legal aid information can also be found on the site, as can links to the Law Society's training pages and the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors' Web site.
The site also advises first-time users how to get the best service from their solicitor, with information about fee charging and other basic legal procedures.
Law Society President Michael Napier said: 'We want to use the improvements in Web technology to provide a faster and more efficient service for clients.
The new site will do just that by improving the public's access to the vast database of solicitors who are regulated by the Law Society.'
