Disability dilemma for in-house lawyersMany in-house lawyers do not know whether they must make changes because of disability discrimination legislation, a survey has revealed. One in three FTSE 100 and 250 companies contacted by Addleshaw Booth & Co did not know whether they had to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
A further 12% did not think they had to make any changes.Nearly half the respondents said the Act is unclear and are concerned about compliance costs, but none had contacted the Department of Trade and Industry about how they should interpret the Act.Addleshaws' commercial services head, Malcolm Pike, said: 'What is most clear from the findings is the degree of uncertainty that exists even among some of the largest organisations in the country about the implications of the legislation.'Anne Mizzi
