The City has failed to be rocked by the news that Freshfields' second proposed German merger failed to go through.
Partners at the merger target, top ten firm Bruckhaus Westrick Heller Lber, voted against the tie-up last month.
This did not come as much of a surprise to those in the know.
It is understood that Bruckhaus may have been tipped off that Freshfields' high-flying lawyers are nicknamed 'spitfire pilots'.
Needless to say, the war reference did not go down well.
