I write regarding your article 'AA gears up to offer "Roadside Law"' (see [2005] Gazette, 17 November, 1). As the various runners and riders await the off in the 'Services to Punters For Profit Only Stakes' may I as a solicitor of 22 years' qualification - and still proud of it - make the following suggestions:

  • All solicitors should cancel their AA membership. The loss to the AA of group schemes would no doubt be quite phenomenal.

  • My firm has just had the open area at the front of our office paved and (subject to planning permission) will now start repairing cars for clients while they wait for whatever depleted services we will still be able to offer them within the next couple of years.

  • Maybe others might like to follow suit.
