There is far too much coverage in the Gazette of the 'plight' of firms that signed up with the claims management companies.
My firm, like many others refused to have anything to do with these companies. We did this because we preferred to stick to our professional principles, and because we could see that it would all end in tears anyway. We got no thanks or backing from the Law Society at the time, and many of us suffered hugely financially as a result of our stand. In fact, most of the time we were regarded as dinosaurs.
The firms that took the contrary view and signed up with these companies knew what they were doing. They sold their professional soul to the devil and now they are reaping the result that we on our side always said would come about. In the circumstances, I for one am not inclined to sympathise with their crocodile tears now.
The moral of the tale is to stick to professional principles, and you will not go far wrong. Cast them aside and you are on the rocky road to ruin, and it serves you right. I hope the lesson will be learned.
