The master of the rolls has urged lawyers to use the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta to educate young people about the charter’s importance.

Lord Dyson, chairman of the Magna Carta Trust, said: ‘The 800th anniversary is a unique opportunity to educate a new generation about Magna Carta.’ A 2012 poll found that 60% of 18-24 year-olds had heard of Magna Carta, compared with 87% who were aware of the US Declaration of Independence.

Dyson was speaking at the launch of the Junior Lawyers in Schools project.
