Employment law committee - membership vacancy

The Law Society's employment law committee works to keep under review and promote improvements in employment law and practice, to support members of the profession undertaking work in employment law, and to promote the role of solicitors practising in this field.

Over the last year, the committee's work has focused primarily on responding selectively to government consultations in the areas of employment and discrimination law.

The committee currently has a vacancy for a practitioner with recent experience of doing publicly funded legal work.

Applicants must demonstrate awareness of the key issues affecting the legal profession, substantial experience of employment law and practice, and recent experience of doing publicly funded work, whether in private practice, the not-for-profit sector, a statutory body, or similar.

The committee meets five times a year.

In addition, some work must be done before and between meetings.

Travel expenses to and from meetings will be paid.

Applicants should have an active interest in law reform and practice issues of importance and be able to contribute ideas and practical experience through attendance at committee meetings and membership of ad hoc working groups.

Applications are welcome from all those with the necessary enthusiasm, expertise and time to give, regardless of their sex, race, ethnic origin, age, sexual orientation, religion or disability.

Appointments will be made following a selection process which will include interviews of shortlisted candidates.
