Enough of the tarts
Being Law Society President isn't all glamour, Obiter was shocked to hear last week.
Speaking at the annual general meeting, outgoing President Carolyn Kirby recounted some of the notable events of her term of office, many of which seemed to involve dinner engagements with local law societies - 'I don't care if I never eat another goat's cheese tartlet in my life,' she added as a pointer to the caterers.
Her address to King's Lynn Law Society was spectacularly interrupted by the ceiling falling in, but the former president seemed more perturbed by the recollection of the dinner at which she was propositioned by the local law society's 95 year-old father.
For a fee, she said, she would reveal which society it was.
Obiter couldn't see exactly, but her worried successor, Peter Williamson, may well have been getting his wallet out.
