The Big Lottery Fund is to award more than £200,000 to the Environmental Law Foundation (ELF) to help it provide pro bono legal and technical advice to communities and individuals struggling with environmental problems.
The grant will support a full-time, in-house project lawyer at the charity's London office for three years.
Founded in 1992, the ELF receives around 800 enquiries each year, of which some 250 are referred to its volunteer network of solicitors, barristers and technical consultants.
ELF chief executive David Whiting said: 'In addition to providing free environmental legal advice, the new in-house lawyer will improve the quality and timeliness of the preliminary papers we forward to the network.'
