I refer to your article 'Complaints records may be made public' (see (2006) 7 September, 1). My comment was edited and may have given the impression that the Law Society supports such moves before the issue has even been discussed.
In an excellent editorial, you reflected the Law Society view. The representative arm of the Law Society works closely with the Consumer Complaints Board and together we want the best for solicitors and their clients.
However, I also stressed the complexity of this area and that the Law Society (representation) will be consulting with colleagues in Law Society Regulation and Consumer Complaints to determine how or if this type of information might help people make more informed choices. As your editorial said, the regulators must be fair to solicitors and their clients - I am sure they will be.
