The image of the family lawyer focusing only on the financial aspects of their clients' divorce is not one that I or many of my colleagues recognise in the UK (see [2005] Gazette, 17 March, 4).
Pauline Tesler's criticism of adversarial-style family litigation is something many of us share. Thankfully, our 23-year old code of practice, the development of mediation, education on the non-legal aspects of our work, and our recent adoption of collaborative law under the Resolution umbrella has transformed family law for the benefit of our clients.
