Family law committee - appointment of members
The Law Society's family law committee is currently seeking two members.
The first is a practitioner with substantial experience in ancillary relief and private children work, preferably both legal aid and private work as well as some general knowledge of other areas of family law.
The committee also seeks an academic with particular knowledge of and interest in family law and law reform in this area.
The committee meets six times a year and members are appointed for an initial term of three years.
The committee is concerned with improving law and procedure and in promoting practice advice to the profession.
The committee responds to proposals on law reform put forward by the government, the Law Commission, rules committees and other bodies.
The committee is actively involved in developing initiatives and areas of practice and is currently undertaking major projects to improve the practice of family law.
Membership of the committee currently consists of matrimonial solicitors - both legal aid solicitors and those with private clients - child care solicitors, a local authority solicitor and a justice's clerk.
The Society is also considering forming a reference group to deal with issues relating to domestic violence.
This group would be asked for their views on this subject by e-mail, but would not need to attend the Society on a regular basis.
Applications are welcome from all those with the enthusiasm, expertise and time necessary, irrespective of sex, race, colour, age, sexuality, religion or disability.
The closing date for applications is 2 January 2003.
For an application pack, apply to Cheryl Morris, Practice Development Team, The Law Society, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL, DX 56, London/Chancery Lane.
