A joint, on-line survey has been launched by the Criminal Law Solicitors Association, the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association, the Legal Aid Practitioners Group and the Law Society in a bid to understand the impact of the reduction in fees for Crown Court litigation, which is proposed in the Department for Constitutional Affairs consultation and the Carter report on legal aid procurement. The plan is to assess the impact on practitioners of the proposed cuts by testing a random selection of cases and comparing fees paid at present to fees proposed under the new regime. The survey should be completed by 22 September 2006. For more information, see www.lawsociety.org.uk.
