While I accept the views of business minister Pat McFadden in his article ‘Breaking the class ceiling’, I would like to add that the only way in which equality can be achieved in the legal profession is by eradicating racism and discrimination, which are an inherent part of the profession.
Whether the profession wants to accept this or not, it is a reality that thousands of ethnic minority lawyers face prejudice from their own profession and are not allowed to achieve their full potential.
I believe that the government can only do so much, and it is individuals within the profession who need to change and stop determining merit by comparing skin, hair and eye colour.
