Fruit of labour There are plenty of major issues occupying the minds of personal injury lawyers: the constant review and analysis of the mechanics of conditional fee agreements and the impact of so-called claim-farming agencies.
But what gets temperatures boiling is the full-blown debate over the pronunciation of the acronym for the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
At the APIL president's dinner, leading PI lawyer and former Law Society President Rodger Pannone's speech included several references to 'Apil', employing the short 'a' vowel sound, pronouncing it as if it were the fruit made famous by Adam and Eve, not to mention the Beatles.
There was consternation, among the 'A pill' brigade, who pronounce it as if it were a capital letter.
Perhaps Obiter should survey the wider profession - is APIL a sweet fruit or a bitter pill?
