Following Lucy Winskell's comment article referring to the scaling down of international human rights work within the Law Society (see (2006) Gazette, 20 July, 15), we draw attention to the Solicitors International Human Rights Group that was relaunched in January 2005.
The group welcomes membership from individuals and firms. It has established a number of active thematic working groups and hopes to expand its horizons with the support of the profession.
Regular monthly speaker events in London attract a variety of experts and continuing professional development points free to the membership. Some of our members have taken part in human rights missions overseas.
The solicitors' profession has the skills to make a significant contribution to the achievement of human rights standards around the world and we invite interest. Our Web site is at: www.sihrg.org.
