As counsel advising the successful claimant, Tom Bramall, in the case of Bramall v the Law Society (see [2005] Gazette, 18 August, 1), I am rather surprised that the Law Society, commenting on the outcome, should say that 'we are naturally concerned to have been unsuccessful in defending the judicial review proceedings ...'

Would it not have been more appropriate for the Law Society spokesman to have said that the Society accepted in full the judgment of Mr Justice Richards, in particular as to the 'several flaws' in the way in which this case was dealt with by the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors and that it would take heed of this judgment in handling complaints in future?
