As a busy high street practitioner trying to cope with home information packs and the legal aid changes, I dutifully arranged for my headed paper to be changed to include the required words 'Regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority'. As we print our paper and leaflets in-house, this required changes on more than 100 items.

I was therefore rather perturbed to receive a letter last week from the authority saying that all panel member logos had been changed and had to be amended by 1 October. We are fortunate in that we can amend our paper, but there must be many firms that have ordered stationery to comply and will have to amend their paper again at considerable expense.

The issue was not assisted by quoting the wrong website address in the notification letter, meaning that when I finished beating my head against a wall, I could not even download the logos.

At a time when the Legal Services Commission is preparing not to reward panel membership, the whole exercise seems rather futile.
