The 2007 LawWorks pro bono awards saw winners ranging from an international law firm through to individual solicitors.
Retired Slaughter and May partner John Hine received an award for his 'outstanding contribution' to LawWorks, where he has helped develop its mediation advisory clinics.
He has been involved with pro bono work since the 1990s, when he was part of the 20-strong group of City firms that took over the Citizens Advice Bureau at the Royal Courts of Justice (RCJ).
Martin Beard, head of trusts and probate at London firm Dawson Cornwell, won the individual award in recognition of 30 years of volunteering at the Centre 70 Advice Centre in south London.
Eversheds and the Government Legal Service won the firm and in-house team categories respectively.
l The nominations process for the Young Solicitors Group's ninth pro bono awards is open until 21 September. To obtain a form, contact Yvonne Treacy at groups@lawsociety.org.uk or tel: 020 7320 5796.
