In his reply to Peter Vince, the Law Society President gives an apparently robust response defending the Law Society's record on opposing home information packs (HIPs) (see [2006] Gazette, 9 March, 15).
But Mr Vince is right to protest. The facts speak for themselves. High street conveyancing practitioners have everything to fear - and everything to lose.
Criticising the plans of a government that has twice made home purchase reform (which now means HIPs) a manifesto commitment was never likely to achieve a great deal. But I find it exasperating that the impression is now being given that Chancery Lane has the answer and will let us all in on it later - by which time the position is likely to be irretrievable. Should not someone (other than unelected seminar speakers) be warning convey-ancers of the problems ahead?
