Solicitor Yvonne Hossack, a residential care homes law specialist, is standing as an independent in the Bury South constituency in today's general election. Ms Hossack, who is leader of the Short Fat Solicitor Party, is campaigning on the rights of the elderly and the disabled to proper care. Bury South was won in 2001 by Labour's Ivan Lewis, minister for skills and vocational education, with a 32.3% majority. Ms Hossack decided to stand in Bury South having been involved in the saving of a residential care home there in 2002. She is pictured talking to Vicki Purcell and her son Freddie, aged four, in the piazza in Radcliffe town centre.
