The Human Rights Act 1998 has had no significant impact, detrimental or otherwise, on criminal or anti-terrorism law in UK courts, according to a review published by the Department for Constitutional Affairs this week. The government said it is prepared, nonetheless, to change the law to ensure that agencies in the criminal justice system and elsewhere give priority to protecting the public when implementing the Act. The review also addressed several of the 'myths' surrounding the Act and called for an improved understanding of the legislation to counter common misconceptions.
