Idol worship

This is a victory of enthusiasm over talent perhaps, but Obiter is excited to report the profession's own attempt to run a Pop Idol competition.

Irwin Mitchell is holding a heat in each of its regional offices, with the winner of each going on to perform at the 'national Irwin Mitchell pop idol final' early next year.

It's actually more of a 'Stars in their Eyes' event, with partners, solicitors and other employees dressing up as their musical heroes and belting out a tune.

The first winner comes from the Birmingham office: partner Gary Walters triumphed as Edwardo Enrique Lopez - who he? you may ask (we did).

Mr Walters was not around when we called (presumably he was already cutting his first disk) and his secretary had no idea who Mr Lopez was.

Apparently, Mr Walters put on some big Medallion Man act to beat assistant Hassan Shah and his rendition of 'Love is all around me' by Wet Wet Wet.

Chest hair always does the trick.
