I read with interest Colin Ettinger's recent comments regarding Weightmans' rehabilitation panel and how claimant solicitors will not be 'rushing to use the service' (see [2005] Gazette, 4 August, 4).

Thankfully, Mr Ettinger's views are not typical of our experiences so far, with many claimant solicitors recognising a genuine attempt to assist the claimant at the earliest opportunity by offering a service from independent, professional, quality-assured providers.

All panel members have agreed to abide by service standards, including prompt initial action and the provision of monthly reports to both parties on the progress of treatment.

Fortunately, claimant solicitors generally appear more open-minded and ready to embrace this rehabilitation initiative than Mr Ettinger appears to be. It is ultimately, after all, for the benefit of all concerned.
