Nick Cooper has been appointed general counsel and company secretary at Cable & Wireless. He was formerly corporate counsel at energy company Energis, as well as Wetherspoons and Asda, and succeeds Andrew Garard.

Severn Trent has hired Fiona Smith as general counsel and company secretary, replacing Peter Davies, who is retiring. Ms Smith will join from Transport for London, where she is general counsel.


Randal Barker, former general counsel at Genworth Financial's mortgage insurance business in Europe, has been appointed group legal director at Resolution, the consolidator of closed life funds.


Tower Hamlets Council has appointed dual qualified barrister and solicitor Isabella Freeman as assistant chief executive, legal services. She was previously assistant director of legal services at Slough Borough Council.
