Fine.

To all intents and purposes, he cannot read Welsh (not that we would expect him to able to), but why, if not to be ironic about the language, go on to suggest that those of you who enjoy that lovely language may wish to check for yourselves, when it is self-evident that they would do so without his advice? It is not, after all, as if one looks to someone for guidance on a matter who professes next to no knowledge of it.

I am not Welsh, but my wife is (although with only a smattering of Welsh), and I think that such supposedly witty comments are not only a wasteful filling of column inches, but an insult to her compatriots and her.
