National firm Irwin Mitchell has reaffirmed its commitment to its home city of Sheffield by committing to move all staff to one of its newest developments.

The firm will transfer all 1,000 employees based in Sheffield to Elshaw House in the project known as the Heart of the City.

Irwin Mitchell has expanded significantly since it was founded in 1912 in the Steel City, opening offices across the UK. But Sheffield remains its biggest operation and the new building offers 48,000 sq ft of office space.

Jonathan Scarsbrook, regional lead partner for Irwin Mitchell in South Yorkshire, said: ‘We’ve been in Sheffield for more than 100 years and although we’ve now expanded to have 24 other offices nationwide, Sheffield is still our largest base of colleagues and will always be an important location for us.

‘We have an exceptional team of lawyers in Sheffield advising our clients on their legal needs whether business or personal. We can’t wait for our colleagues to move into the new space in the Heart of the City. The city centre has undergone huge investment and improvement in recent years, and we are pleased to be able to pay our part in that positive change.’

The firm has been based at its current Riverside East location for 20 years, during which time it has evolved from being a largely claimant personal injury practice to providing additional services such as private client, family law, employment, real estate and corporate law.

Irwin Mitchell has been on a surge of new office openings, with sites opened in the past five years in Brighton, Cardiff, Liverpool, Nottingham and Reading. The firm also recently took space in Crawley near London Gatwick Airport to support its immediate workforce of more than 80 staff as well as visitors from its other offices.
