One hesitates to reach immediately for cliche, but it would appear that the Law Society of Ireland's conference this year is more about the craic than the law.

The conference, in April, is being held in Sicily - a place more renowned for Mafia lawlessness - and runs for five days.

But from what we can tell, the business side of the conference takes up a whole half-day of that period.

It is, appropriately enough, a session about money laundering and the law, but is squeezed in between trips to Mount Etna, a historical tour of Taormina and a trip to Syracuse.

And if it all gets too much, the brochure reassures guests that the four-star conference hotel has a private beach to relax on.
