There are not too many solicitors in international sporting competition this week, so Obiter would like to wish all the best to Jason Wellings, a claimant personal injury lawyer at Stafford firm ORJ.

Since last being featured in Obiter for making his debut as goalkeeper for the US hockey team (see [2002] Gazette, 5 September, 10), Mr Wellings has made the position his own, saving penalty flicks in the semi-final and final of the California Cup recently, which the US went on to win (he's pictured here in the final against Canada).

You would have thought that a PI lawyer would know better than to take part in a sport where big sticks are waved around with abandon, but he is now in the Dominican Republic for the Pan American Games, victory in which will qualify the team for next year's Olympics.

In the interests of the Gazette's own Olympics coverage in 2004, if nothing else, we wish him well.
