The Young Solicitors Group (YSG) and the Trainee Solicitors Group have agreed in principle to merge. If the forthcoming age discrimination legislation allows, this group may be called the Junior Law Society. Governance arrangements still need to be decided, but it is expected that the merger will have taken place by September 2007. Matthew Claxson, a litigation solicitor with Lawrence Hamblin in Reading, has been elected chairman of the YSG in succession to Keith Etherington.
