A junior minister at the Ministry of Justice today announced her resignation in order to join the procession of Labour MPs calling for Sir Keir Starmer to set a timetable for his departure. Alex Davies-Jones, parliamentary under secretary of state, held the portfolio of minister for victims and tackling violence against women and girls.
In her resignation letter the MP for Pontypridd said: 'It is with a very heavy heart that I feel I have no choice but to resign.'

Referring to last week’s disastrous local and devolved assembly elections for Labour, Davies-Jones continued: 'The country has spoken and we must listen. The time now is for bold, radical action. I implore you to act in the country’s interest and set out a timetable for your departure.'
The next session of parliament opens tomorrow with the King’s speech.
