Law firms need to change the way they manage associates if they want to retain the top talent, a leading HR director has warned.
Speaking at the Law Society's quality of life debate last week, Genevieve Tennant, of City firm Allen & Overy, said firms needed to adapt to the changing expectations of recruits.
Firms need to engage with associates both socially and at work, and ensure they feel properly valued for the contributions they make, Ms Tennant said. 'While financial reward is important, it is not the key determinant in terms of job satisfaction - these are quality of work, positive interaction with partners and appreciation for work well done.
'The challenge is to ensure that individuals experience this on a daily basis and that it is not reserved for the annual review process.'
