Law Society relaunches on web with 'practical' siteThe Law Society last week launched its new-look Web site as part of a drive towards reform and improved customer service. The new site now provides easy access links to the Law Society's 12 specialist legal practice sites and a range of membership services.

Members can also tap into sites offering recent developments in 33 practice areas, including changes in government policy, legislation and case law, as well as 34 linked membership service and information pages.

The site also offers on-line access to the Law Society's in-house recruitment service, a news link to the Gazette, access to events listing and full contact details for staff.

Members wishing to change their practice details can also do so on-line either through a home page link or by accessing www.change.lawsociety.org.ukThe Web page also offers links to 19 other category sites where practitioners can access information including transcripts, law reports, legislation, legal publications, legal journals and directories.

The next phase of development is already planned for next month, when a bespoke registration system will be introduced.

The system will allow users to register specific areas of interest which will then be prioritised for the user each time they enter the site, a service already available on the Gazette's site.

The Law Society is also developing a capacity to deal with transactions from renewing practising certificates to ordering books on-line.Gerald Newman, the Society's deputy director of communications, said the redesigned site 'offers a huge wealth of resource for practitioners which is much more user friendly'.Sue Allen
