Lawyer faces fraud charges over asylum seekers entering UK

A solicitor has been charged with offences related to the alleged making of fraudulent arrangements for obtaining permission for a large number of asylum seekers to remain in the UK, and remanded in custody.

Police said Titus Miranda, a 56-year-old sole practitioner from Harrow, was arrested by officers from the National Crime Squad (NCS) on 2 March 2002, with two non-solicitors - 31-year-old Lee Long Fee and 21-year-old Jessica Yin Jing.Mr Miranda and Ms Lee long Fee - described by the crime squad as an interpreter who worked for him - were both remanded in custody.Mr Miranda applied for bail this week at Chatham Magistrates court.The judge deferred the hearing until next week.
