LAWYER IN THE NEWS ; ;Who? Nathene Arnaoutis, 60-year-old sole practitioner at Nathene & Co in Hampstead, north London.

;Why is she in the news? Acted for ex-King Constantine of Greece, who won his case against the Greek government last week in the European Court of Human Rights.

The court said the Greek government had acted in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights in seizing the ex-Kings estates including the Duke of Edinburghs birthplace on Corfu in 1994 without compensation.

The ex-King, who since 1967 has lived in Hampstead, said that he will seek compensation unless his estates are returned.

;Background: Mrs Arnaoutis completed her first degree in English and French in her home country of South Africa, before winning a scholarship to study French literature at the Sorbonne in Paris.

As a postgraduate, she then studied social administration at the London School of Economics before enrolling at the College of Law in London in 1974.

She qualified with Birkbeck Montague in 1979, before moving to Beckman & Beckman in 1980 and later Redferns.

She set up as a sole practitioner in 1985.

;Route to the case: The ex-King and his wife originally instructed a firm based in London.

When I ;was asked to advise on some conveyancing work for their children, I looked through their legal history and took on this case.

I was instructed to handle the case from then onwards.

;Thoughts on the case: All my client wants is to have his family homes restored to him, especially as there are a number of family graves on one of the confiscated ;properties.

He merely wants to be able to travel in and out of his own country freely he does not want to fight the Greek people on this ;matter, but if the government will not restore to him what is legally ;his, then he will have no alternative but to seek compensation from them.

;Dealing with the media: It was important to deal with the media very carefully, as we were obviously wary of causing antagonism among the Greek community through rubbing their noses in the judgment.

However, the ex-King has held a press conference solely for the Greek media, where he has tried to put his side of the story forward and explain his motivations in the case.
