Lawyer in the news

Who? Adam Van Straten, 34-year-old partner in the music and entertainment department at London law firm Mishcon de Reya.

Why is he in the news? Represents the prominent celebrity Kate Price, who is professionally known as Jordan.

Previously a glamour model, Jordan is expected to give birth to her first child shortly, a birth that was at one point going to be broadcast live over the Internet.

Last week, he appeared in a documentary about her, which was broadcast on BBC2.

Background: BA (Hons) in law at Buckingham University from 1985-88, followed by Law Society finals at Guildford College of Law in 1989.

He qualified in 1991 at London practice Avery Midgen & Co.

In August 1992, he joined music and entertainment practice Eatons, and was made partner in 1997.

Eatons and Mishcon de Reya merged in October 2000.

Route to the client: 'I have represented Jordan in all her legal matters for the past six years.'

Thoughts on the client: 'As you can imagine, celebrities such as Jordan have an ongoing need for legal advice.

As well as advising her generally on her commercial affairs and negotiating the relevant agreements, we also advise her on defamation and libel matters, trademarks and other private client matters.

Jordan is a one-woman industry, and very astute in her business dealings.

She is a client who is constantly in the media, but there is a tremendous amount of inaccurate material published about her.'

Dealing with the media: 'Mishcon de Reya is very experienced in dealing with media and entertainment work generally, and I represent many people in high-profile industries such as music, film and sport.

As such, many of our clients frequently appear in the media, and we are successful at keeping clients and their legal matters out of the media where necessary.

Reputation management is an important part of the service we provide to clients such as Jordan who are constantly in the public eye.'
