Lawyer in the news
Who? Andrea Dyer, a 37-year-old partner and head of family law at 13-partner Leeds firm Lee & Priestley.
Why is she in the news? Acted for Mr and Mrs A, the white couple who had mixed-race twins after the sperm of a black man, Mr B, was mistakenly injected into the wife's eggs during fertility treatment.
Senior family judge Dame Elizabeth Butler-Sloss ruled last week that Mr B was the legal, as well as biological, father of the twins; Mr A will now apply to adopt the babies.
Background: BA Hons at Keele University followed by Law Society Finals at Chester Law College.
She qualified in 1992 and has been with Lee & Priestley ever since.
Route to the case: 'I had previously represented other members of Mr and Mrs A's family and I assume that they felt confident about instructing me in this case for that reason.'
Thoughts on the case: 'This case involves two families which have been devastated by these events.
Both wanted a family and underwent IVF treatment, which is very difficult in itself without something like this happening.
Unusually for a family law case, there is no question of it being the "fault" of either family.'
Dealing with the media: 'The media have been very courteous to me and dealing with them has not been difficult.
My clients are very private people who wish to get on with their lives in an ordinary and quiet way without the added pressure of more media exposure than the case was always going to generate.
I've simply had to tell a lot of journalists that my clients are not interested in talking to them.
The court has ensured that both families and the children have maintained their anonymity.
While my clients recognise the wider public interest, the reporting of the case does have an impact on them, even though they remain unidentified.'
