Who? Bon Battu, 44-year-old partner at Huggins & Lewis Foskett in London. He is a conveyancing solicitor who also acts for sportsmen.

Why is he in the news? Acts for England and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell. Mr Campbell has been the subject of much media speculation since he left Highbury stadium after half-time in a match against West Ham last week, having made errors leading to two goals for the opposition. Newspapers speculated that he had gone missing and was suffering from personal problems - his lawyer denies both assertions.

Background: LLB at what was then Kingston polytechnic, graduating in 1985, followed by the Law Society finals at Guildford College of Law. Trained at his current firm, which was then called Huggins, qualifying in 1989. Made junior partner in 1993 and is now a senior partner.

Route to the case: 'I met a chap in a bar who was a football agent, back in 1988. We exchanged cards, and then about a year later he introduced me to Sol, who was a youngster at Tottenham then. I acted for him on a minor driving offence. I also acted for some other sports people.'

Thoughts on the case: 'Sol and I are friends - I have acted for him for years, and we talk every day about work. He is not having personal problems, it is just his football, and he needed time to regroup. He is now back at training, as I said he would be in my statement to the press.'

Dealing with the media: 'I am used to the media, but it did get to a point on Saturday, when the media were outside my house in vans, where enough is enough. I made a press statement to the News of the World and Sky TV. There is this yearning for stories about footballers from the general public. There were 1,200 people who died in an [Egyptian] ferry, and yet trying to find Sol Campbell was on the front of the papers, to feed the general public's frenzy for sportspeople and sports stories.'
