Some 122 people affected by the London bombings have received free legal advice in the past year, the Law Society said last week. A dedicated telephone helpline set up by the Society immediately after the bombings received 170 calls, the majority of which came directly from the injured victims, with the remainder from families, friends and police family liaison officers. Solicitors from 43 law firms volunteered to provide pro bono services, and dealt with issues such as criminal injury compensation claims, insurance and employment, death certificates, and probate. Law Society President Kevin Martin said: 'The pain and suffering of those affected and their loved ones may never go away, but hopefully these solicitors have helped resolve some of the practical issues.'
