QUALIFIED SUPPORT

In the debate over the common professional examination, I draw attention to one section of our profession, albeit of diminishing numbers, made up of those who served a five-year period under articles and then qualified as solicitors.

We worked in our respective offices, were unpaid and were required to do a lot of studying in our spare time. We were kept by our parents, who made considerable financial sacrifices to ensure that we qualified.

Surely we deserve an appropriate qualification to put after our names?
